Made to Order Software presents DLF.
A tool used to search for the dynamic libraries necessary for your software
to run properly.
Quite often, our customers and ourselves, we need to create a package with all
the software we program for clients. At times, it is a simple situation where
the package is used once in one location and voila. In that case, you can take
all the files, put them on one or more CD or
DVD and deliver the entire
set of files.
There are, however, situations when this is not as easy. The software is created
for vertical market meaning that you want to sell it to thousand or even millions
of people. The more data on the CD the more costly it is to do the duplication.
Imagine that you could remove 10 DLLs
each being over 1Mb in size. That would represent at least 10Mb saving on the
CD. Just that small saving could be enough for you to save several thousand
dollars in replication. Even more if all of a sudden your software fits a CD
instead of a DVD!
The DLF tool helps you by telling
you exactly what libraries are required for your software. The final result is
a very small set of libraries in your package. As small as it can be.
And note that all versions of DLF works for three file formats: MS-Windows (PEI),
Linux (ELF), and Mac OS/X (MACH-O). This means you can run DLF just and only
on MS-Windows to parse MS-Windows, Linux, and Mac OS/X files; or just on Linux
and parse MS-Windows, Linux, and Mac OS/X files; etc.
