Adobe has released, on May 1st, a link to a new page called Open Screen Project.
The idea is to have the code of the Adobe Flash Player released for free. Whether it will be the existing code or a new code base, we will see. It sounds that the idea is to give everyone access to their different formats so that way they do not enter a price war that could end up with a competitor (Microsoft?) having a “better” player.
Free code is nice, but there were also license restrictions on the video formats supported by the player. These have also been released. You can now use these video format free of any license duties. This is also quite a move since all the other movie formats (except uncompressed or most RLE formats) are still 100% under license by one or another (Apple Inc., MPEG group, etc.)
